April 16, 2018 Meeting Notes

Peotone Township Regular Meeting

Supervisor Gene Younker called the January meeting of Peotone Township Board to order at 7:01 P.M. on April 16, 2018.

Trustee Jim Morgan led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Roll Call indicated all were present.

The minutes of the March 19, 2018 meeting were presented. A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made by Trustee Morgan and was seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

No visitors were in attendance.

The Town Fund Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road District Funds Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Schwartz. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Financial Summary Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Town Fund bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker Motion carried unanimously.

The Road & Bridge, Hard Road and Equipment Funds bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Swartz. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick

 and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The following correspondence was received:

  • A letter from Will County Center for Community Concerns
  • AT&T email update on our phone system. Supervisor Younker updated us on this situation.
  • FOIA request from Better Government Association – Clerk Heisner will fulfill their request.
  • IRS Updated Mailing address
  • Will County Clerk; letter with $253 check for Feb. ’18 fines.
  • Peotone Scholarship Committee Request for scholarship donations. Resolved in new business.
  • Letter from auditors about new “Certificate of Vote” form with the official stamp requirement.
  • TOIRMA dividend check of $1,696 ($611 – Town Fund and $1,085 – Road & Bridge Fund).

Under Old Business, Will County Sheriff’s Officers Deputy Ken Rafter and Deputy Bill Hetfliesch discussed with the board our options on enforcing load limits on the township roads.

Supervisor Younker discussed the proposed changes in the 2018-2019 proposed budgets.

The board did a review of the donations plan for the 2018 – 2019 fiscal year.  Trustee Morgan made a motion that we accept the proposal, Trustee Schubbe seconded the motion.  On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

Under New Business, the board set the times for the Town Fund and Road Budget Hearings at 6:30 pm and 6:45 pm on May 21, 2018.  Trustee Schwartz made a motion that we accept the proposal, Trustee Schubbe seconded the motion.  On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The request for scholarship funds from the Peotone Community Scholarship Association was discussed.  Trustee Morgan made a motion that we give a $500 scholarship to the program, Trustee Schubbe seconded the motion.  On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The request from the West Peotone Cemetery Association was discussed. Trustee Morgan made a motion that we provide $500 grant to the association for the upkeep of the cemetery, Trustee Heatherwick seconded the motion.  On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

Supervisor Younker discussed the resignation assessor’s assistant Wade Strawbridge effective April 11, 2018.  Assessor Pat Latham will document the situation that lead to his verbal resignation.  Trustee Morgan made a motion that we accept the verbal resignation of assessor’s assistant Wade Strawbridge effective April 11, 2018.  , Trustee Schwartz seconded the motion.  On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Schwartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

Assessor Pat Latham had no other assessor’s news to report.

Road Commissioner Hack reported that the ongoing problems with our Ford truck have been fixed. 

Being no other reports or comments from the Board, a motion to adjourn was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Schubbe at 8:13 P.M. The motion was unanimously accepted.
