November 21, 2022 Meeting Notes

Peotone Township Regular Meeting

Supervisor Younker called the November meeting of Peotone Township to order at 7:00 P.M. on November 21, 2022.

Randy Swartz led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Roll Call indicated all were present.

The minutes of the October 17, 2022 meeting were presented. A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made by Trustee Swartz and was seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The visitors in attendance, were Dan Younker and Alex Mendelson.

Alexander Mendelson from Turning Point Energy did a presentation and answered question about a proposed solar in Peotone Township.  Dan Younker spoke about the duties he has preformed cleaning the township building.

The Town Fund Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road District Funds Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Financial Summary Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously..

The Town Fund bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road & Bridge, Hard Road and Equipment Funds bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

No new additions to the Agenda.

Under Planning & Zoning, there was no business.

The following correspondence was received:

  • Letter from Peotone Park District telling us about proposed senior events to hosted by the park district in the future.
  • Received refund ($685.65) from Discount Cell, Inc. for two routers we returned.
  • Letter from Will County Disability Resource Center with a request for donations.
  • Peotone Chamber of Commerce invitation to December 1st, holiday party.
  • A note from election judges asking that we fix the lock on the ladies bathroom.
  • PACE Newsletter with 2023 budget.

No Old Business to discuss.

Under New Business, there was discussion of the current contract we have with Dan Younker for cleaning the township building.  The board felt we should review the current contract and get more information before any changes.

A motion to accept Ordinance #2-22 Road District Tax Levy Ordinance was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker.  Motion carried unanimously.

A motion to accept Ordinance #1-22 Township Tax Levy Ordinance was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Younker. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker.  Motion carried unanimously. Both Levies were discussed in detail at the October meeting.

Assessor’s Report, Virginia Gates-Hamann reported she is prepping for upcoming quadrennial assessments and still updating past records.  She is also very happy with better communications with the new county assessor’s office.

Road Commissioner Hack reported that all snow equipment is ready for the winter season. Still frustrated with the 1-ton truck.

Being no other reports or comments from the Board, a motion to adjourn was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick at 8:10 P.M. The motion was unanimously accepted.
