July 17, 2021 Meeting Notes

Peotone Township Regular Meeting 

Supervisor Younker called the July meeting of Peotone Township to order at 7:00 P.M. on July 19, 2021.

Ron Schubbe led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Roll Call indicated all were present except Assessor Latham.

The minutes of the June 21, 2021 meeting were presented. A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made by Trustee Morgan and was seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker.  Motion carried unanimously.

Visitors in attendance, Virginia Hamann and Angela Grzeskowiak who did choose to address the board.  Ms. Grzeskowiak expressed concerns about the possible re-zoning of the parcel of land east of Gull Landing.  Supervisor Younker told her this board had no control over that possibility.

The Town Fund Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road District Funds Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Swartz. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Financial Summary Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Town Fund bills were then submitted.  A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road & Bridge, Hard Road and Equipment Funds bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Building and Equipment Funds bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

No additions to the Agenda.

Under Planning & Zoning, there was no business.

The following correspondence was received:

  • Peotone Chamber of Commerce invitation to the “Christmas in the Village” will take place on December 11.
  • TOI Annual Payroll Audit completed and returned.
  • Peotone American Legion “Cash Bash” September 11.

Old Business, none presented.

New business, Supervisor Younker introduced Attorney D. Cass Wendlund, for consideration as our representing Attorney for township legal affairs.  A motion to accept the proposal to make Attorney D. Cass Wendlund as our township attorney was made by Trustee Morgan and was seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker.  Motion carried unanimously.

Supervisor Younker reported the meeting with G.W. & Associates Auditors on July 6 to do the township audit was successful. 

Supervisor Younker reminded everyone the August meeting will be August 16.

No assessor’s report.

Road Commissioner Hack reported that they are cutting roadsides and getting Kennedy Road section ready to be tar & chipped.  He will be getting bids to blacktop County Line Road.

Being no other reports or comments from the Board, a motion to adjourn was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick at 7:42 P.M. The motion was unanimously accepted.
