July 20, 2020 Meeting Notes

Peotone Township Regular Meeting 

Supervisor Younker called the July meeting of Peotone Township to order at 7:00 P.M. on July 20, 2020.

John Hack led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Roll Call indicated all were present.

The minutes of the June 15, 2020 meeting were presented. A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made by Trustee Morgan and was seconded by Trustee Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker.  Motion carried unanimously.

Three visitors were in attendance.  Virginia Hamann spoke to the board and presented documents saying she had concerns with the fairness of property assessments in Peotone Township. Anna Rosenberg spoke to offer a rebuttal to the statements made by Virginia Hamann.

The Town Fund Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road District Funds Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Swartz. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Financial Summary Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Town Fund bills were then submitted.  A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road & Bridge, Hard Road and Equipment Funds bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

No additions to the Agenda.

Under Planning & Zoning, there was no business.

The following correspondence was received:

  • A thank you letter from scholarship winner Ethan Carroll
  • TOI Supervisors Division regarding cancelled training sessions.
  • Newsletter from CASA.

No Old Business to discuss.

New Business, Supervisor Younker said the yearly audit would be done by the same group we had last year and the AFR would be submitted soon.  He also stated the August meeting would be held a week early on August 10th.

Assessor’s report, Assessor Latham questioned the decision of the board to not budget her request for $8,000 to pay a helper for her office.  Supervisor Younker stated the board didn’t see the need for a helper for her.  He also stated the board had asked her last year to submit work sheets of the helper’s duties to justify the helper’s wages.  Assessor Latham refused to do so.  Trustee Heatherwick said the board understood that the quadrennial year reassessments extra help would be needed and that is why helper’s appropriation was made by the board for the 2019 – 20 year. Trustee Swartz also expressed that the board would’ve liked to get helper’s duties submitted on the time sheets. 

Road Commissioner Hack reported that they are working on getting a section of Kennedy Road tar and chipped.  He is also working on cutting the corners throughout the township.

Being no other reports or comments from the Board, a motion to adjourn was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Morgan at 7:35 P.M. The motion was unanimously accepted.
