April 19, 2021 Meeting Notes
Peotone Township Regular Meeting
Supervisor Gene Younker called the April meeting of Peotone Township Board to order at 7:00 P.M. on April 19, 2021.
Supervisor Younker led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Roll Call indicated all were in attendance except Assessor Latham.
The minutes of the March 15, 2021 meeting were presented. A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made by Trustee Swartz and was seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
Visitors were in attendance were Virginia Hamman and Beverly Christiansen.
Beverly Christiansen from Peotone Helping Hands spoke to the board to thank us for directing funds from the Will Cares Act to their organization. They help over 100 area families and the $10,000 grant to Helping Hands resulted in $40,000 worth of food purchased and much needed repairs made to the facility’s sidewalk, kitchen and restroom.
The Town Fund Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Swartz. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
The Road District Funds Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Supervisor Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
The Financial Summary Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
The Town Fund bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker Motion carried unanimously.
The Road & Bridge, Hard Road and Equipment Funds bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Supervisor Younker. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
No additions to the agenda.
The following correspondence was received:
- Will County Tax Extension Office sent notice of 2020 tax rates. Supervisor Younker approved both and returned signed copies.
- Allied Benefit Systems annual renewal review.
- Will-Ride request & approval.
- Letter from Will County Center for Community Concerns asking for donations. Approved in new business.
- Will Township letter about reducing speed on Rt. 50 to 35-MPH.
- TOI request for legislative action by townships.
- Peotone Scholarship Committee Request for scholarship donations. Resolved in new business.
No Old Business.
Under New Business, bids for hiring a new accounting firm were reviewed. A motion to accept the bid from GW & Associates, PC was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Swartz. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
Supervisor Younker discussed the proposed changes in the 2021-2022 proposed budgets. The board did a review of the donations plan for the 2021 – 2022 fiscal year. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
A motion to approve a $500 scholarship for Peotone High School graduate living in Peotone Township, a $1,000 for Joliet Area Hospice, and $1,000 for Manteno Veterans Home was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Morgan . On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
The board set the times for the Town Fund and Road Budget Hearings at 6:30 pm and 6:45 pm on May 17, 2021. Trustee Schubbe made a motion that we accept the proposal, Trustee Heatherwick seconded the motion. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.
Supervisor Younker discussed the proposed 3-Year Plans for township Road & Bridge, Hard Road, and Equipment work for our future.
Supervisor Younker informed the board he has adopted the Rules of General Assistance Handbook for fiscal year 2021-22 provided by the State of Illinois.
Assessor Pat Latham was not in attendance.
Road Commissioner Hack reported good news that Will County Sheriff’s Police is starting to patrol County Line Road and issuing tickets to semi-trucks. This was due to resident’s complaints. We are still concerned about the damage to the road these trucks are doing and hope to get continued patrols.
Being no other reports or comments from the Board, a motion to adjourn was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick at 8:17 P.M. The motion was unanimously accepted.
