April 18, 2022 Meeting Notes

Peotone Township Regular Meeting 

Supervisor Gene Younker called the April meeting of Peotone Township Board to order at 7:00 P.M. on April 18, 2022.

Trustee Heatherwick led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Roll Call indicated all were in attendance.

The minutes of the March 21, 2022 meeting were presented. A motion to accept the minutes as presented was made by Trustee Swartz and was seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following members voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

No visitors were in attendance.

The Town Fund Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Trustee Swartz. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Road District Funds Budget Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Supervisor Schubbe. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Financial Summary Report was submitted. A motion to accept was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The Town Fund bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker Motion carried unanimously.

The Road & Bridge, Hard Road and Equipment Funds bills were then submitted. A motion to pay these bills was made by Trustee Morgan and seconded by Supervisor Younker. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

No additions to the agenda.

The following correspondence was received:

  • Catholic Charities letter posting their “Aging & Disability Resource Network”
  • Letter from Will County Center for Community Concerns asking for donations for their 35th
  • Audit Committee Document to be sent to Will County Clerk.
  • Communication with Verizon to correct internet and phone problems.
  • Peotone Scholarship Committee Request for scholarship donations. Resolved in new business.

No Old Business.

Under New Business, Supervisor Younker discussed the proposed changes in the 2022-2023 proposed budgets.  He also discussed attending a meeting about concerns for the Peotone Cemetery.  He has added funds for the cemetery in the upcoming donations plan.  The board did a review of the donations plan for the 2022 – 2023 fiscal year.  A motion to accept was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion to approve a $500 scholarship for Peotone High School graduate living in Peotone Township, a $1,000 for Joliet Area Hospice, and $1,000 for Manteno Veterans Home was made by Trustee Heatherwick and seconded by Trustee Morgan. On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

The board set the times for the Town Fund and Road Budget Hearings at 6:30 pm and 6:45 pm on May 16, 2022.  Trustee Schubbe made a motion that we accept the proposal, Trustee Heatherwick seconded the motion.  On a roll call vote, the following voted “yes”: Morgan, Schubbe, Swartz, Heatherwick and Younker. Motion carried unanimously.

Supervisor Younker discussed the proposed 3-Year Plans for Township Road & Bridge, Hard Road, and Equipment work for our future.

Supervisor Younker discussed changes and upgrades that had to be made in the township office internet and phone system.  They hired an outsource technology person to come in and make needed changes to the Verizon System we have in our office.

Supervisor Younker informed the board he has adopted the Rules of General Assistance Handbook for fiscal year 2022-23 provided by the State of Illinois.

Assessor Gates Hamann reported she is still in the process of sorting paperwork, updating and organizing the assessor’s office. She is also attending required CE classes.

Road Commissioner Hack reported they are grading roads, collecting trash and hauling chips.

Being no other reports or comments from the Board, a motion to adjourn was made by Trustee Swartz and seconded by Trustee Heatherwick at 8:00 P.M. The motion was unanimously accepted.
