CEMETERY HISTORY

The first known burial in Fondulac Cemetery occurred in 1835 and the stone stands to this day. The Fondulac Cemetery Association was formed February 17, 1857 with John Lorimer Jr. as president. John Leadley quit-claimed an additional ten acres of land to the Association on June 29th, 1864. The Fondulac Cemetery grew by 15 acres in 1917 when additional land was purchased from the Sheen family.  Finally, a parcel of nearly five acres was purchased in 1984 making the existing Fondulac Cemetery approximately 30 acres. Currently, Fondulac Cemetery can accommodate up to 960 casket burials per acre and is responsible for, on average, about 100 burials per year including both cremation and casket. The office currently maintains over 14,000 lot sale and burial records.

In 2002, 80 acres of land in the Robein area was purchased for future cemetery expansion.  In November 2017, the Township held a Special Town Meeting where electors voted to enter into a lease agreement with Trajectory Energy Partners who intend to build a community solar field on approximately 20 acres of that land.  The income from this lease agreement will provide for the beginning phases of cemetery expansion. More information will be provided as that project comes to fruition and the Cemetery office is happy to answer any questions you may have.
