On Monday, September 19, the City of Peoria launched a Utility Assistance Program to provide financial relief to low-income renters and homeowners impacted by energy rate increases. A total of $300,000 has been dedicated to the program to provide up to four consecutive months of payments for gas and electric bills. The City will make payments directly to Ameren Illinois. Residents who are currently enrolled in the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are ineligible for this program. This program was funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act. However, the Peoria Township is not facilitating this particular program. Due to extreme high volume of calls and inquiries from residents in Peoria seeking Ameren assistance, the Township is extending an additional resource that residents may be able to utilize.
The application period begins at 9:00 AM on Monday, September 19th, and ends at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 7th. You can apply online or pick up paper applications, available at City Hall, 419 Fulton Street, Room 203, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Questions may be directed to 309-494-8600.
