Pembroke Township was organized on February 17, 1877, containing a total of 41 sections. Pembroke Township proudly stands as the largest Township in Kankakee County. The Township is now governed by Supervisor Samuel Payton. Pembroke Township covers a total of 26,240 acres or 52 square miles.

Pembroke Township lies in the southeast corner of the county with Iroquois County to the south and the State of Indiana to the east.
