Township government got its start in North America in 1636 and is the oldest form of government on the North American continent. In Illinois, township government held its first elections a century and a half ago after their creation by constitution in 1848.
Danvers Township is one of the 30 townships in McLean County. It covers 41.5 square miles through primarily agricultural northwest McLean County. As of the 2010 census the population was 1925.
