Updates from Township Supervisor Andy-John G. Kalkounos 

Zero Tax Increase:

For a second year in a row, our Township Board voted for a “0%” increase in the overall tax levy. Our Township Board was unanimous in this vote. We are keeping our commitment to continue our responsible and responsive government. Our residents are our neighbors, and we understand that many are struggling in this high inflation environment. The Township will continue our commitment to be fiscally responsible with taxpayer money while meeting the needs of our community.

We have increased outreach and multiple services over the past two years while maintaining a balanced budget and a fully funded IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) pension fund. This is a best practice exceeding the vast majority of governing entities across the state.

Marketing/Communication:

I have told many friends that in my experience, government is likely among the worst at marketing their services. Well, we plan to change that by steady and thoughtful improvements to our strategy, using multiple platforms and clean messaging that speaks to all residents.

Our new website was launched at the beginning of this year; it offers an easy-to-use layout to help residents locate the information and services they need. It’s a great step in making us a more accessible, service-oriented government.

Military Vets:

We collaborate with great partners, such as the IL Dept. of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Evanston Vet Center. The Vet Center will be providing expanded services at the Township to assist our service members and their families that deserve access to benefits and mental health therapy for those who qualify right here in our Township buildings.

Food Pantry:

With generous, tax-deductible donations to our foundation, the Township’s “Needy Family Fund” (501c3), our Township can say that we don’t turn away anyone who is hungry.

Our food pantry has experienced an increase of nearly 37% in pantry visits over last year. We serve over 500 families a month! No one should go hungry in our Township, so the food pantry is working diligently to meet the residents’ needs with fresh produce, dairy, eggs and meat.

Our pantry has also focused on providing a greater variety of foods including Halal meats, allergy and diabetic-friendly foods. 

Transportation:

Our Transportation Department provides paratransit rides for seniors and the disabled. We have experienced an increase in reservations for on-demand over last year. We help many residents by transporting to and from their medical appointments from dental to dialysis.  We also offer services for non-medical trips, so please call for information.

Personal Message:

I would like to thank you, once again, for the privilege and the opportunity to serve this incredible community as your Township Supervisor. My report to you is a positive one; you have a truly caring and professional staff that delivers for all of us. You should know we have a harmonious elected Board that is focused on the important work of the residents. We foster an environment that is inviting and service oriented.

All of our children share classrooms, cafeterias and sporting fields. To think that some are suffering from food scarcity is a painful reality that your Township Government is responding to every day. Now more than ever, Palatine Township is the last line of defense. Please take a moment to include your Township in your summer plans when donations are low.

Please donate to the Needy Family Fund. This not-for-profit plan is funded by private, tax-deductible contributions to assist residents who are at need. You can donate online by clicking on the donate button below. We will help people financially who have no income and are not eligible for unemployment. They are the first priority.

Our Mission 

Palatine Township supports citizens within the Township with services authorized by Illinois law including assistance to those in need, support for accurate property assessments, senior services including transportation, and maintenance for roadways in the unincorporated areas. We provide programs and services in a timely, efficient and courteous manner always mindful that the taxpayers of Palatine Township are paying for the services.

Palatine Township provides numerous services and events for its 113,000 residents, and supports 29 social service agencies located within its boundaries. The Township is one of the most heavily populated in Illinois, with a goal to enhance and improve the quality of life for all of its residents. The following communities are part of the Township: Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Inverness, Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Barrington, South Barrington and Schaumburg.
