Hopkins Township is in the eastern portion of Whiteside County (website athttp://www.whiteside.org) located in the northwest corner of Illinois. The Township can be accessed by Interstate 88, U.S. Route 30 (Lincoln Road) and/or Moline Road (formerly Route 2). The original Lincoln Highway passes through the community of Emerson. Also, the Union Pacific Railroad traverses the Township, with 2 main-line tracks, connecting the East and West Coasts.
Within the County, Hopkins Township covers approximately 35.6 sq. miles, and is bounded by Fulfs Road on the north, Ridge Road and Fisher Street on the east, the Rock River and Mellotts Road on the south and Yorktown Road on the west. Within that area, the Hopkins Township Road Commissioner is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of approximately 50 miles of roads and 7 bridges.
According to the 2000 Census, Hopkins Township's population was 2, 381, an increase of 3.16% when compared to the 1990 Census. It is "home" to 24 residential subdivisions, which includes the communities of Como, Emerson and Galt. Approximately 20,000 acres of land are dedicated to agricultural; numerous businesses and industrial endeavors, including the new Wal-Mart Distribution Center, are located in the Township.
Please join the Hopkins Township Board for its regular monthly meetings held at 7:00 p.m., at the Township Garage/Town Hall, Emerson Road, just west of Emerson. Please see the Calendar of Events page for specific dates. Most months the meetings are on Monday evenings but in the event of a Monday holiday or special circumstance, the meeting might be on Tuesday evening.
