The Assessor is charged with the responsibility of equitably assessing all real property at one-third (1/3) of its Fair Market Value each year. By State Statute, each Township must complete a total revaluation of property every four (4) years. This is known as a General Reassessment.
The Assessor's Office also assists homeowners with several different types of Exemptions. An exemption is a set amount that is deducted from the Assessed Value. The exemptions offered are as follows:
- General Homestead Exemption, or, Residential Owner Occupied Exemption
- Home Improvement Exemption
The Assessor's Office also assists Senior Citizen's (65 years of age or older) with two additional exemptions:
- Senior Homestead Exemption
- Senior Citizen's Assessment Freeze (income based)
