Our 2015 Topics Day speakers...

 

 

Senator Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) was first elected in 2002 and is currently serving his fifth term in the Illinois Senate.  He serves in leadership as the Senate President Pro Tempore. 

During his tenure, Senator Harmon has championed early childhood education, easing the tax burden on working families, cleaning up state government, curbing gun violence, strengthening voters’ rights, protecting Illinois’ natural resources, marriage equality, expanding healthcare for low-income families and modernizing the electric power grid.

Senator Harmon serves as Chair of the Executive Committee, Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, as well as on the Assignment and Judiciary Committees.  He earned his high school diploma at St. Ignatius College Prep and his bachelor’s degree at Knox College. He holds both a law degree and an MBA from the University of Chicago. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Leslie Geissler Munger was sworn in as Illinois State Comptroller on January 12, 2015. Comptroller Munger is a native Illinoisan, earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois and her master’s degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

She is a former brand management business executive with Unilever HPC/Helene Curtis where she led the $800 million U.S. Hair Care business and Procter & Gamble by managing large budgets, solving difficult business problems, and delivering results.  Early in her career, Munger also was in charge of recruiting at McKinsey and Company, Inc.

She has been an active community volunteer and leader for the Riverside Foundation, a not-for-profit residential facility for developmentally disabled adults in Lincolnshire where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2013.

Comptroller Munger also served on the School District 103 Foundation Board for 7 years, and spent 3 of those years as President.  The Foundation raised money for education enhancements in the school.

She is a member of the University of Illinois Student Affairs Advisory Council. In 2004, Leslie was named Lincolnshire's Citizen of the Year. Comptroller Munger and her husband, John, live in Lincolnshire and have two adult sons, Tom and Andy.
